BauderSOLAR G Light

An integrated bio-solar mounting system designed specifically for use with Bauder extensive and biodiverse green roofs. It uses the green roof build-up itself as ballast, enabling penetration-free installation while maximising planting coverage and solar energy generation

BauderSOLAR G Light is an integrated bio-solar mounting system designed specifically for use with Bauder extensive and biodiverse green roof systems. The solution enables photovoltaic (PV) panels and green roof vegetation to coexist on the same roof area, delivering renewable energy generation while supporting biodiversity, sustainable drainage, and long-term roof protection.

The system is penetration-free and load-supported, using the green roof build-up itself as the ballast mechanism. Solar mounting frames are installed above Bauder DSE 40 anchor and drainage boards, allowing substrate and vegetation to be continuous beneath and between panel rows. This approach maximises planted roof area while avoiding mechanical fixings through the waterproofing layer.

BauderSOLAR G Light is compatible with framed crystalline PV modules and can be configured for south-facing or east–west layouts. The system is suitable for roofs with falls of up to 5° and is designed to comply with relevant wind load standards, including BS EN 1991-1-4 and BRE guidance, with project-specific ballast and layout calculations provided by Bauder as part of the specification process.

An integral feature of the system is its reliance on substrate depth and vegetation as part of the overall performance strategy. The green roof contributes cooling benefits to the PV panels, supports rainwater attenuation, and enhances biodiversity, with Bauder recommending specialist planting mixes suited to shaded and drought-tolerant conditions typically found beneath solar arrays .

Designed as part of Bauder’s wider roofing ecosystem, BauderSOLAR G Light integrates seamlessly with Bauder waterproofing, insulation, drainage, and green roof components. The system is fully demountable and recyclable at end of life, supporting circular economy principles and long-term adaptability of the roof space.
