Optigrün Solar FKD is a fully integrated bio-solar mounting system engineered to function as part of Optigrün’s certified green roof build-up rather than as a standalone solar frame. The system combines solar mounting frames with Optigrün’s drainage, storage, and protection layers to create a coordinated solar green roof solution with proven structural and environmental performance.

The system is load-supported and penetration-free, with photovoltaic mounting frames fixed to base plates positioned above Optigrün drainage and storage boards (FKD 25). Stability is achieved through the green roof build-up itself, including substrate and, where required, additional ballast, all calculated as part of a project-specific structural design in accordance with Eurocodes.

Optigrün Solar FKD is suitable for extensive green roofs on flat and gently sloping roofs up to 5°, and can be configured for south-facing or east–west module orientations. Fixed tilt options of 10°, 15°, and 20° are available, allowing designers to balance energy yield, wind loading, and planting performance within the same roof area.

A defining feature of the system is its integration with Optigrün’s water management layers. The FKD 25 drainage and storage boards provide controlled drainage and water retention beneath the solar arrays, supporting plant health while contributing to sustainable drainage strategies. The system can also be combined with Optigrün’s WRB retention elements where increased water storage is required.

Optigrün Solar FKD must be installed as part of a complete Optigrün system build-up, including protection fleece, filter fleece, drainage and storage layers, and substrate, ensuring the overall roof system is tested, warranted, and performance-verified. This makes it particularly suited to projects where long-term reliability, certification, and integrated green infrastructure performance are critical
