Solar FKD

A modular solar frame that sits directly on Optigreen FKD drainage boards for green-roof and biosolar setups.

Solar FKD is perfectly engineered for flat roofs that use Optigreen’s green-roof drainage and water-retention boards. It’s extremely clean and minimalistic — the frame sits on top of the FKD boards, which means it spreads load evenly and protects the waterproofing. The system is penetration-free, so nothing damages the membrane. Installers love it because it’s modular, lightweight, and works smoothly on roofs with odd shapes or multiple roof obstacles.

One of its biggest strengths is compatibility. If the building already has Optigreen drainage laid down — or the client wants a full green-roof build-up — then Solar FKD integrates seamlessly. All the components are designed to work together. FKD systems allow good water drainage, which helps keep plants alive under the solar modules. And unlike heavier concrete-based mounting systems, this setup maintains roof warranties because the structural stress is spread across a large footprint.

Its main limitation is tilt and output. Solar FKD is best used on roofs where the tilt angle is kept low — usually 10–20 degrees maximum — because higher angles can affect wind uplift and stability. So again, this system is not built for maximum electricity production. It’s built for eco value, balanced loads, and beautiful green-roof integration. It’s also not suited for roofs that can’t support green-roof weight. But for clients who want a well-engineered, tidy, and warranty-safe biosolar solution, Solar FKD is one of the most reliable options out there.
