Solar Top

Optigrün Solar TOP is a retrofit, load-supported solar mounting system designed for penetration-free installation on existing extensive green roofs. It enables photovoltaic arrays to be added without disturbing the underlying green roof build-up, using east–west oriented, ballasted mounting frames

Optigrün Solar TOP is a non-penetrative, retrofit solar mounting system developed for installing photovoltaic (PV) panels on existing extensive green roofs. Unlike integrated bio-solar systems, Solar TOP is designed for projects where a green roof is already in place and solar generation is being added at a later stage, avoiding disruption to the waterproofing and vegetation layers.

The system is load-supported and penetration-free, with aluminium mounting frames ballasted using paving stones or slabs to achieve stability. Solar TOP is configured as a double-module system with a fixed inclination of 10°, orientated in an east–west arrangement to optimise roof coverage and limit shading between panel rows.

Solar TOP maintains a minimum clearance of approximately 300 mm between the lower edge of the PV modules and the substrate, helping to preserve plant health, airflow, and access for inspection and maintenance. Integrated maintenance walkways are formed at both the high and low points of the PV rows, supporting safe access across the roof.

The system is suitable for roofs with pitches of 0° to 5° and can be used on a wide range of roof constructions with parapets. Structural loading and ballast requirements are calculated on a project-specific basis in accordance with Eurocodes, ensuring compliance with wind and structural performance requirements.

Optigrün Solar TOP is typically specified where solar PV is being retrofitted onto an existing green roof and a lightweight, reversible, and penetration-free solution is required. It complements Optigrün’s integrated Solar FKD and WRB systems by offering flexibility across different project stages and retrofit scenarios.
