Overview

A 40kWp solar PV system was delivered across two new-build blocks, integrated with Bauder’s BioSolar roofing solution supplied and installed by Georgian Roofing. The installation provides sustainable on-site renewable generation while remaining fully compatible with the green roof design.

The Challenge

The project required the solar PV system to be split across two separate buildings — the Welcome Block and the Teaching (Linear) Block — each with different roof orientations. The system also needed to integrate seamlessly with the Bauder BioSolar roof to ensure both roof performance and solar efficiency were maintained. Close coordination with the roofing contractor was essential, as Bauder anchor boards and Vs had to be installed ahead of the solar works.

The Solution

A total of 109 SolarWatt 430W panels were supplied and installed across the two buildings. The Welcome Block was configured with a 20kW system comprising 44 south-facing panels arranged in two strings of 22 to maximise direct solar gain. The Teaching (Linear) Block accommodated a 25kW system with 65 panels split across east- and west-facing orientations to optimise generation throughout the day, with 34 panels west-facing in two strings of 17 and 31 panels east-facing in two strings of 15 and 16.

Bauder BioSolar mounting components were supplied and installed by Georgian Roofing, including anchor boards and Vs. The solar installation was then completed, including panel installation, inverter setup, electrical works, and DNO registration, ensuring full system compliance.

The Result

The completed 40kWp system delivers strong on-site renewable energy generation while preserving the integrity and performance of the Bauder green roof system. The east/west configuration on the Teaching Block provides consistent energy production across the day, while the south-facing Welcome Block maximises peak generation during daylight hours.

Why This Approach Worked

  • Seamless coordination between roofing and solar installation works

  • Proven integration with Bauder BioSolar systems

  • Optimised system design to suit multiple buildings and orientations

  • Fully compliant installation supporting long-term sustainability goals
